Microsoft Hiring Critical Environment Technician Intern Hyderabad

Overview

Join Microsoft’s Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team, the group responsible for powering Microsoft’s global cloud services. As a Critical Environment Technician Intern, you will help support the infrastructure that runs platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Xbox, and OneDrive.

This internship provides practical exposure to datacenter operations along with learning opportunities and training programs. Microsoft operates hundreds of datacenters and millions of servers worldwide, serving over a billion customers and millions of businesses across more than 90 countries.

The team focuses on sustainability, reliability, and operational excellence while delivering large scale cloud services. Interns will gain experience working in a professional environment that values collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

As a Critical Environment Technician (CET) Intern, you will work onsite at Microsoft datacenters in Hyderabad and support daily operational activities.

• Perform basic operational tasks such as site rounds, recording observations, and taking measurements under supervision.
• Learn safe operation of critical infrastructure systems and work toward Microsoft CET Level 1 certification.
• Monitor and inspect facility equipment including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and fire or life safety systems, reporting any abnormal conditions.
• Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track assets and manage work orders.
• Assist with emergency monitoring and follow established procedures for response.
• Support incident investigations by collecting information and contributing to root cause analysis.
• Participate in planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities, including preparing materials and related documentation.
• Work with senior technicians to troubleshoot complex equipment and facility systems.
• Document maintenance and troubleshooting work and escalate issues when necessary.
• Contribute to developing Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safe operations.
• Carry out technical research to build knowledge of datacenter systems and operations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of electrical and or mechanical systems.
• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Must be an Indian national or legally authorized to work in India.

Background Check Requirements

Selected candidates must meet Microsoft, customer, or government security screening requirements. This includes passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check at the time of hiring or transfer and periodically thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completed qualification in Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Diploma level electrical or mechanical engineering certification.
• Ability to stand, walk, lift equipment, and work at heights with or without assistance.
• Capability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English for collaboration with regional and global teams.
• Willingness to learn new technical skills and develop professionally.
• Flexibility to work non standard hours, including weekends or holidays when required.
