A Hardware Engineering Intern designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates components used in electronic devices involving mechanical systems and equipment, and/or the manipulation and transmission of electricity. This role defines design approaches, technical specifications, and parameters for devices, ensures designs and specifications document test requirements that account for customer use scenarios, and selects materials and components based on analysis of specifications and reliability. You may work with suppliers to select optimal materials and components for devices, investigate hardware failures, perform fleet-scale triage, analyze system logs and telemetry, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions that improve platform reliability and customer availability.

Responsibilities
- Assist in creating robust, scalable, secure, and extensible designs and/or verification plans for the hardware engineering aspects of well-defined products or features.
- Read device specification sheets and interpret common details required to design and test various hardware features. Ensure test requirements are included in documentation and specifications for a feature or product.
- Strategically and creatively innovate ways to communicate and visualize user experiences.
- Assist in hardware fleet triage and investigation of server, storage, networking, and platform-related issues impacting Azure services.
- Analyze diagnostic data, telemetry, crash dumps, firmware logs, and hardware health signals to identify failure patterns and root causes.
- Support debug and validation activities across systems incorporating silicon from multiple vendors, including CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and accelerator technologies.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship.
- Knowledge of embedded programming and C/C++/C# concepts is preferred.
