Google's Software Engineering Intern role in India is a paid summer internship in Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Pune. It is for students currently in a Bachelor's, Master's or dual degree in computer science or a related field, and Google prefers students in their penultimate year. You join a team for 10 to 12 weeks and work on a real project.
Status on 30 October 2026: closed for Bachelor's and Master's students. The India posting for the Summer 2027 internship went up in mid-June 2026 and asked students to apply before 28 June 2026. Google hasn't posted the Summer 2028 role. If it follows last year's timing, expect it around June 2027. Eligibility
- You must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's or dual degree in computer science or a related technical field. Graduates can't apply.
- Google prefers students in their penultimate year. For a Summer 2027 internship that means students graduating in 2028, which for a 4-year B.Tech is usually the third year. Google states "penultimate year", not a graduation year, so read each year's posting.
- Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language, and with data structures, algorithms and software design. The Summer 2026 posting also asked for experience with Unix or Linux.
- Preferred: project work in areas such as systems, networking, distributed systems, mobile, machine learning or security, and taking part in CS activities outside class.
- English proficiency is required for all Google roles unless the posting says otherwise.
Google doesn't state a CGPA cut-off in the posting. If your college reports CGPA and a form asks for a percentage, use the CGPA to percentage converter with your university's rule.
Application and selection
- Find the Software Engineering Intern posting for India on Google Careers and sign in with a Google account.
- Upload an updated resume.
- Upload a current transcript in English. An unofficial copy is fine. In the education section, choose "Now attending" as the degree status, or the transcript upload won't appear.
- Choose your preferred location: Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Pune.
- Submit before the deadline in the posting. In 2026 it was 28 June, about two weeks after the role went up.
Google doesn't list the interview rounds in the India intern posting. Data structures, algorithms and software design are listed as core requirements, so prepare for technical interviews on them.
Stipend
Google says the internship is paid but doesn't publish the stipend for India. Business Today reported in March 2024 that Google had reportedly offered a ₹1 lakh monthly stipend to engineering students in Bengaluru. Treat this as a reported figure; it can differ by year and location.

How to prepare

- Practise data structures and algorithms questions regularly, and be ready to explain your approach and its time complexity.
