How to convert CGPA to percentage
There is no single national formula. Each university decides how its grade points map to marks, and several have changed the formula between schemes. VTU used (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 for its 2015 to 2018 schemes and CGPA × 10 from 2021; AKTU, KTU, JNTUK and IIT Kharagpur have also changed theirs. Use the formula for your university and your batch: a company or higher-studies form that asks for percentage expects that figure.
Every formula here comes from the university's own regulations, circulars or certificates, linked on its page. Many universities call the result "notional" or "indicative": it is an equivalent percentage, not marks scored. When a form has space, mention the formula you used.
The "AICTE formula" is not AICTE's
Many websites show (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 as the AICTE formula. AICTE has not published a CGPA conversion formula; that one is VTU's rule for the 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes. If your university has no formula, CGPA × 10 is the most common rule.
CGPA vs SGPA
SGPA is the grade point average of one semester; CGPA is the average over all semesters so far, weighted by credits. Convert the CGPA for your final percentage, unless the form asks for a particular semester.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
Use your own university's formula: it is in your regulations or on the back of your grade card. Most universities now use CGPA × 10, but VTU (2015–2018 schemes), JNTUH, JNTUK, GTU, BPUT, MAKAUT, Mumbai University and SPPU use different formulas. Pick your university above to use the right one.
Is there an AICTE formula for CGPA to percentage?
No. AICTE has not published one. The '(CGPA − 0.75) × 10 AICTE formula' on many websites is VTU's formula for its 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes. Use your own university's formula.
Is CGPA × 9.5 the correct formula?
Only for CBSE Class 10 results from 2010 to 2017, Delhi University's older CBCS programmes and NIT Delhi. Most universities use × 10 or their own formula.
What is 8 CGPA in percentage?
It depends on the university: 80% at AKTU, 72.5% at VTU (2015–2018 schemes), 75% at JNTUH, 72.5% at SPPU, 72% at Mumbai University and 76% at Delhi University.
How do I convert SGPA to percentage?
Most universities apply the same formula to SGPA (one semester) as to CGPA (all semesters). For your final percentage, convert the CGPA, unless a form asks for a particular semester.
