Eligibility

From the 2026 IITH notice:

  • Only students from outside IIT Hyderabad can apply.
  • You must be in one of these: 2nd or 3rd year B.Tech or B.Des (all branches), 3rd or 4th year integrated B.Tech-M.Tech, 1st year M.Sc in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology, or 1st year M.A.
  • You must be in the top 20% of your discipline by CGPA or percentage in all previous years. Your head of institution or principal certifies this in IITH's letter format at the time you apply.
  • You must be a full-time, regular student when you apply and until the internship ends.
  • You must be able to work full time on campus for at least one month.

The 2025 list was a little wider. It also took B.Arch and B.A. students, and 1st or 2nd year M.A., M.Sc or M.Res students in Psychology. Check the course list in each year's notice.

Selection process

  • Apply only through the online portal. IITH does not accept offline or email applications.
  • Departments screen applications. A department or mentor may also hold an online interview.
  • IITH looks at consistent marks, class or university rank, work beyond coursework, awards in contests such as Olympiads or NTSE, and the interview.
  • Results are posted department-wise on the SRC news page, and selected students are told by email. Students who are not selected get no message.
  • Selected students must confirm joining by a deadline (5 May in 2026), or the offer lapses.

Fellowship and stay

The fellowship is fixed by duration, and you choose one option: ₹7,500 for one month, ₹10,000 for one and a half months or ₹15,000 for two months. No other amount or benefit is paid. In 2026, interns stayed in IITH student hostels and paid their own mess charges.
