What the IASc Summer Research Fellowship 2027 offers
Each fellow is placed with a guide drawn from a list of scientists and faculty who have agreed to supervise short-term projects. That list appears inside the online application, so you can see who is guiding this cycle before you submit. You work with the assigned guide for two months, and the timing can fall anywhere in 2027, though the Academies would like it to be the summer.
Selected candidates receive their entitled round-trip train fare and a monthly fellowship to cover living expenses at the place of work. The notice doesn't print the monthly figure. For more summer options, see our summer internships guide.
SRFP 2027 eligibility for students
You must be studying at a university or college affiliated to UGC, AICTE or MCI, or at an accredited institution or private university. You also need to be in one of these exact courses and years:
- BS / BSc (II year only)
- BSc (Research) (III year only)
- BStat / BMath (II year only)
- BPharm (III and IV years only)
- BE / BTech / BCA (II and III years only)
- BArch (II, III and IV years only)
- MS / MSc / MVSc / MPharm (I year only)
- ME / MTech / MCA / MArch (I year only)
- MStat / MMath (I year only)
- 5-year integrated MS / MSc / MTech / MBBS / BVSc (II, III, IV years only)
- PharmD (III, IV years only)
- Dual degree BTech + MTech, BE + MSc or BS + MS (II, III, IV years only)
- Integrated PhD (I, II years only)
- MSc Tech (I, II years only)
The year limits are strict. A fourth-year BTech student cannot apply, and a BSc student qualifies only in the second year.
Students need an average of at least 65% in core subjects from Class X up to the highest level completed so far, with languages left out of the calculation. PhD students are not eligible, and anyone who has already held an Academies fellowship twice cannot apply again. College and university teachers can also apply, and the 65% rule doesn't apply to them.
Documents you need for the SRFP application
Have everything scanned before you open the form, because the portal asks for uploads as you go.
- Mark sheets from Class X up to your latest examination, each as a JPEG file of 700 kb or less.
- A write-up of roughly 150 to 250 words on your area of interest and what you want to learn and achieve.
- The email address of one of your present teachers who knows your work. The Academy contacts this teacher for a recommendation letter in its own format, so you don't upload a letter yourself.
Spend real time on the write-up. The instructions want the specific experiment or theory you'd like to work on, and they say plainly that a general description of the field isn't what they're after. It must be your own writing, with nothing copied from another source.
Teachers who apply should upload any publications they have. If selected, they must post an authorization letter from their Principal or HoD granting permission or leave to The Coordinator, SRFP 2027, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru 560 080.
How to apply for SRFP 2027
- Read the official announcement (Download Announcement PDF) and the full instructions to applicants before you start.
- Open the official SRFP 2027 application page. The same form is linked from ias.ac.in, insaindia.res.in and nasi.ac.in.
- Fill in every field marked with an asterisk, since those are mandatory. Leave out apostrophes and special characters such as Ø or Ü, because the system blocks uploads that contain them.
- Go through the list of scientists and faculty shown in the application to see who is guiding projects this cycle.
- Add your write-up, upload your mark sheets and enter your teacher's email address for the recommendation.
- Submit before 30 November 2026 and note the registration number you get right after submission. You'll need to quote it in all later correspondence.
Tips before you submit the SRFP form
Send only one application. If the Academies receive more than one from the same person, none of them is considered. Don't post hard copies of mark sheets or the form either, as the whole process runs online.
Tell your teacher in advance that the Academy will write to them. And check every detail you enter: if false information is found at any stage, the fellowship is cancelled, you repay the fellowship and travel money, and your guide and institution are informed. You can browse all opportunities on Talentd while you wait for results.
SRFP 2027 selection and results
The Academies alone decide who is selected. Selection letters, together with the guide's agreement, are expected around March or April 2027. Questions go to the SRFP coordinator at the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru, by email at jointsrf@ias.ac.in or on (080) 2266 1206, 2266 1207 or 2266 1208.
