About the NATS Program

The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) is a Government of India initiative focused on skill development for young graduates in technical disciplines. Under the Apprentices Act, 1961 (amended in 1973), Volvo Group provides a one year apprenticeship program that offers practical, hands-on on-the-job training.

Role Overview

The Graduate Apprentice Trainee will assist the Health, Safety and Environment team in implementing workplace safety initiatives. The role involves supporting compliance with statutory requirements, conducting inspections, and promoting a strong safety culture within the facility. Trainees will gain practical exposure to industrial safety management systems and regulatory practices.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Inspections and Monitoring

  • Assist with daily workplace safety inspections.
  • Identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and near-miss incidents.
  • Support closure of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Participate in departmental safety audits.
  • Monitor housekeeping standards across the facility.
  • Verify adherence to safety procedures and work instructions.

Risk Assessment Activities

  • Assist in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and risk assessments.
  • Support hazard identification activities with stakeholders.
  • Participate in workplace surveys and process risk assessments.
  • Help develop risk control measures.
  • Maintain documentation and records related to risk assessments.
  • Prepare weekly reports on risk assessments and unsafe conditions.

Safety Training and Awareness

  • Assist in organizing safety induction programs for new employees and contractors.
  • Support delivery of safety briefings and training sessions.
  • Participate in National Safety Month activities.
  • Help prepare safety presentations and awareness materials.
  • Coordinate safety campaigns and related activities.

Incident Reporting and Investigation

  • Assist in reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Collect evidence and witness statements.
  • Prepare preliminary investigation reports.
  • Track corrective action implementation.

Emergency Preparedness and Response

  • Support activities of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Participate in mock drills.
  • Inspect emergency equipment such as fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, emergency exits, eyewash stations, and spill kits.
  • Assist in updating emergency response plans.

Statutory Compliance Support

  • Assist in maintaining compliance records under applicable laws and regulations.
  • Support documentation related to the Factories Act, State Factory Rules, Occupational Safety Health and Working Conditions Code, and fire safety regulations.
  • Assist during regulatory inspections and audits.

Safety Committee Support

  • Participate in safety committee meetings.
  • Record meeting minutes.
  • Follow up on action items.
  • Support implementation of committee recommendations.

Digitalization

  • Support digitalization of routine safety and operational activities.
