Job Description

The Market Risk Analyst role focuses on activities across market risk metric production, analysis, data quality, and reporting for individual asset classes and for the bank overall.

The position includes data validation, reporting, and end to end process control for asset classes such as Equity, Credit, FX, Rates, Emerging Markets, and Treasury. Responsibilities also involve producing and analyzing market risk metrics using historical simulation and providing explanations across relevant risk measures.

The role also supports Run the Bank (RTB) change initiatives through continuous improvement, business process reengineering, stability enhancement, and process optimization. Additional responsibilities include test execution management, data quality oversight, and operational governance covering standards, completeness, accuracy, BCBS compliance, and documentation.

Team / Division Overview

  • Market Risk Management (MRM) provides an independent perspective on market risk to senior management and manages the bank’s market risk position in an impartial manner.
  • The Market Risk Analysis and Control (MRAC) team produces official market risk metrics and performs core analysis to support risk management decisions.
  • The team operates globally with members located in London, New York, Singapore, Mumbai, and Pune.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate and map risk feeds while maintaining related controls.
  • Run daily, weekly, and monthly risk metrics including VaR, SVaR, and IRC.
  • Review market risk metrics at business and portfolio levels.
  • Generate and review key risk reports covering VaR, SVaR, EC, PST, and IRC.
  • Collaborate with Market Risk teams, MRMs, and Finance groups to analyze risks and resolve issues across asset classes.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify issues affecting daily production processes and support improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in governance discussions related to BCBS239.
  • Assist with testing of the bank’s risk models, including stressed period selection.

Skills and Experience

  • Graduate or postgraduate degree in a numerate field such as Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics.
  • Understanding of financial markets, financial products, derivative pricing, and related methodologies.
  • Experience working with large datasets using tools such as MS Excel, MS Access, VBA, and SQL.
  • Exposure to programming languages such as Python or Matlab is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Python coding and Tableau exploration is advantageous.
  • Interest in market risk frameworks and their relationship with bank capital.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver within tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to work across different shifts when required.
