GenC (Generation Cognizant) is Cognizant's hiring and training programme for freshers. For engineering students it has three tracks with different pay: GenC, GenC Pro and GenC Next. Everyone goes through the same registration and tests, and Cognizant decides which track you are interviewed for based on how you score.
Status on 30 October 2026: there is no open engineering GenC registration on Cognizant's careers site. The GenC page currently lists only an off-campus Analyst Trainee role for three-year degree graduates (BCA, B.Sc, B.Com and similar) from the 2024, 2025 and 2026 batches. Engineering campus hiring runs through college placement cells: for the 2025 batch it started in September 2024, so final-year students of the 2027 batch should ask their placement officer now. Cognizant hasn't published a 2027-batch brochure that we could find.

These figures are from Cognizant's own campus brochures for the 2024 and 2025 batches, shared through university placement notices. In August 2024 Cognizant said engineering freshers get ₹4 lakh to ₹12 lakh a year depending on hiring category, skills and certifications, and that a much-discussed ₹2.52 lakh offer was only for three-year non-engineering graduates (reported by BW Businessworld). At ₹4 LPA the monthly take-home is about ₹28,000: see the Cognizant GenC in-hand salary breakdown.
Eligibility
- A specific B.E., B.Tech, M.E. or M.Tech degree of the batch named in the drive. Streams such as leather, food and fashion technology are excluded. Some drives are limited to CS, IT, AI and data science, and electronics.
- At least 60% in X, XII, diploma, UG and PG. Cognizant says 59.9% is not rounded up. If your college grades in CGPA, the university's conversion rule applies; our CGPA to percentage tool shows the common formulas.
- No standing arrears, and at least 60% aggregate with no arrears when you join.
- You must be willing to work at any Cognizant office, shift and technology.
- Indian nationals, OCIs and PIOs living in India.
- You join as a fresher: past work experience isn't counted.
Selection process
| Round | What it covers | 2025 batch dates |
|---|---|---|
| Registration and screening | One registration with resume, photo and any industry certificate | 30 Sep to 8 Oct 2024 |
| Round 1 (online) | Communication assessment | 14 or 15 Oct 2024 |
| Round 2 (online) | Aptitude assessment, then technical assessment | 18 or 19 Oct and 21 or 22 Oct 2024 |
| Round 3 (in person) | Technical interview for the GenC, GenC Pro or GenC Next category you are mapped to | Told to shortlisted students |
You must sit all three online tests to reach the interview. At registration you choose two of three skill clusters for the technical test: Java with ANSI SQL and web basics, Python with ANSI SQL and cloud basics, or C# with ANSI SQL and web basics. About 85% of the questions are on the main language and SQL. Selected students get a Letter of Intent. Some are offered an internship before graduating; the rest join full-time after the degree. Joining happens in batches, so there can be a gap between the offer and your joining date.
When drives open
| Drive | Batch | Dates |
|---|---|---|
| Campus hiring 2025 | 2025 graduates | Hiring from September 2024; registration 30 Sep to 8 Oct 2024 |
| Off-campus hiring | 2024 graduates | Hiring from February 2025; one university's registration closed 7 Mar 2025 |
| Off-campus hiring | 2025 graduates | Registration through one college closed 28 Apr 2025 |
The pattern so far: campus drives for final-year students in September and October, and off-campus drives between February and April.
How to apply
- If you are in final year, ask your placement officer whether your college is in the Cognizant drive. Campus registrations go through the Superset link your college shares.
- If you have graduated, check the GenC page for off-campus openings, which list the batches and streams they accept.
- Use a personal email ID on Superset and don't change it: Cognizant only writes to the registered address.
- Keep your marksheets, college ID, PAN card and passport or voter ID ready. PAN is mandatory at joining, and the name must match your registration.
- Ignore anyone asking for money. Cognizant says it never charges candidates; report such requests to GenCHRComplianceIND@cognizant.com.
Hiring volume
Cognizant planned to hire about 20,000 freshers in 2025, and its CFO said it plans 24,000 to 25,000 in 2026, as reported by Outlook Business and the Free Press Journal. These are company-wide figures, not India-only.
