About the Team
Enterprise Architecture at American Express supports the company’s technology strategy. The organization focuses on enabling engineering teams with architectural standards, design guidance, and foundational platforms.
The team operates across four key areas: Architecture as Code, Architecture as Design, Governance, and Colleague Enablement. These areas provide foundational technologies, architecture guidance for critical programs, technical standards and automated controls, and initiatives that support colleague development and enterprise engagement.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and debug software applications and systems.
- Build software using consistent engineering practices, shared tools, reusable components, and documentation with support from peers and leaders.
- Perform code reviews and implement automated testing to maintain strong code quality standards.
- Support and monitor applications across testing, integration, and production environments.
- Follow security guidelines and regulatory practices to ensure compliant software solutions.
- Work collaboratively with product and business teams to align technology solutions with business objectives.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Technical Knowledge
- Understanding of distributed and multi-tier system architectures.
- Familiarity with algorithms, relational databases, and NoSQL databases.
- Knowledge of tools used for planning, analyzing, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining applications.
Experience
- Background in software engineering, application design, or related development roles.
- Experience with object-oriented design and coding using various programming languages.
- Exposure to distributed systems, algorithms, and relational databases.
- Familiarity with Agile development methods such as Scrum or Kanban, including iterations and user stories.
- Experience with automated, functional, or performance testing and documentation.
