Microsoft Hiring Data Center Technician Intern (Chennai)

Within the Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) organization, this internship supports the infrastructure behind services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. CO+I focuses on continuous learning and provides development opportunities through training programs, career rotations, diversity initiatives, and professional certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the deployment of physical infrastructure within the datacenter.
• Install, replace, and troubleshoot network cables and hardware components.
• Handle and manage data-bearing devices such as hard drives and solid-state drives.
• Operate in a ticket-based support environment to track and resolve tasks.
• Move equipment using pallet jacks or other assisted lifting tools when required.
• Support the Datacenter Inventory and Asset Management Team (DIAT) with shipping, receiving, and inventory processes during high workload periods.
• Demonstrate Microsoft’s culture and values in daily work activities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Basic understanding of computer hardware and related components.
• Interest in supporting IT equipment or technology infrastructure.
• Currently pursuing a relevant technical qualification.
• Must be an Indian citizen or have valid residency and authorization to work in India.

Background Check Requirements

Selected candidates must meet Microsoft and customer security screening requirements. This includes successfully completing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hiring or transfer and repeating it every two years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, or Basic Structured Cabling (BSC).
• Ability to handle tasks that involve standing, walking, lifting equipment, or working at heights with or without assistance.
• Strong communication skills when working with multiple stakeholders.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English to collaborate with regional and global teams.
• Motivation to learn new technologies and expand technical skills.
• Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including weekends or holidays when required.
