The Hybrid Observability & Management charter includes Unified Stream Manager (USM) and Confluent Control Center (C3), with a shared objective of providing a consistent enterprise-grade management, observability, and security experience across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid Confluent Platform deployments.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer on this team, you will contribute to scoped components of USM or C3 with mentorship from senior engineers while learning how to build and operate platform software at scale.
- Deliver well-defined tasks and features within timelines, with support through code reviews and mentorship.
- Contribute to USM capabilities such as Agent and Cloud Console, or C3 workflows including cluster health, topic visibility, consumer monitoring, and connector status.
- Create design one-pagers for assigned tasks and incorporate stakeholder feedback.
- Learn and follow Confluent engineering practices, including coding standards, tooling, release workflows, and design reviews.
- Write tests, resolve defects, and participate in peer code reviews to maintain software quality.
- Assist in troubleshooting production and customer-facing issues by reviewing logs and metrics.
- Participate in on-call rotations with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Gradually take ownership of a specific sub-component within USM or C3.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 0 to 2 years of hands-on software development experience, including fresh graduates.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, networking, and operating systems.
- Ability to write clean and maintainable code in at least one modern language such as Java or Go.
- Interest in distributed systems and large-scale services like Kafka.
- Comfortable learning through feedback, collaboration, and code reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Experience
- Coursework or projects related to Apache Kafka, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure.
- Exposure to Kubernetes, Docker, or cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Open-source contributions and interest in observability or platform engineering are beneficial.
