Network Operations Residency Program
Google’s Network Operations Residency Program (NORP) is a two year, full-time program created for recent graduates who want practical exposure to network engineering and technical program management. Participants gain hands-on experience working with large-scale infrastructure and learn how Google builds and operates its global network.
Residents collaborate with engineers on real production systems, contribute to networking projects, and build automation or tools that improve operational workflows. The program provides rotations and mentorship designed to help participants develop technical and operational expertise.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to projects involving large-scale networking infrastructure.
- Assist with network operations, monitoring, and maintenance tasks.
- Work with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
- Develop tools or automation that improves operational efficiency.
- Participate in technical program management activities and initiatives.
Program Outcomes
After completing the rotations, participants may move into roles such as Network Engineer, Software Engineer, or Technical Program Manager depending on interests and performance.

Required Skills
- Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, ARP, routing, and IP tables.
- Knowledge of Unix or Linux system administration.

- Internship exposure to networking, data centers, system administration, or related technical work.
Preferred Skills
- Leadership and project coordination capabilities.
- Ability to adapt and work effectively in fast-paced environments.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
