Job Description

Barclays is seeking a Full Stack Engineer to design, build, and enhance software solutions that deliver business, platform, and technology capabilities for customers and internal teams. The role focuses on creating scalable and maintainable applications using established engineering practices.

Purpose of the Role

The position involves designing, developing, and improving software systems using modern engineering approaches. The engineer will help deliver reliable technology capabilities that support business objectives and digital services.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver high quality software solutions using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools, ensuring code remains scalable, maintainable, and optimized.
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements, plan solution strategies, and integrate systems with business goals.
• Collaborate with peers through code reviews and knowledge sharing to maintain strong coding standards.
• Stay informed about emerging technology trends and contribute to internal technology communities to encourage technical growth.
• Follow secure coding practices to reduce vulnerabilities and protect sensitive information.
• Implement effective unit testing approaches to support strong code design, readability, and reliability.

Required Skills

• Basic proficiency in Java development (JDK 8 or later) with exposure to the Spring framework
• Experience working with JPA or Hibernate and Spring Boot
• Understanding of RESTful API concepts and usage
• Experience with relational databases and writing SQL queries
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
• Understanding of core software development principles and practices
• Basic knowledge of testing practices including unit testing and automation concepts
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals
• Experience working in Agile team environments

Preferred Skills

• Understanding of API security concepts including OAuth2 and JWT
• Exposure to frontend frameworks such as Angular or React
• Experience using build tools such as Maven or Gradle
• Knowledge of microservices architecture concepts
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices
• Experience with code quality tools
• Exposure to NoSQL databases
• Basic understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker
