Devices are built for universal adaptability, delivering high speed without giving up programmability, buffering, power efficiency, scale, or feature flexibility. These products serve the fast-paced world of Open Standards, Open Networking, and massively scalable cloud data centers.

The team develops the full software stack that enables Silicon One network processors. It works with the Open Standards community and with customers to deliver best-in-class routing and switching platforms, and also with architecture and design teams defining the next generation of ASIC products.

Your Impact

As part of the Silicon One Software team, you will work closely with Cisco's Silicon One customers on product adoption, software development, documentation, technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance. You will gather customer requirements and pain points, then help implement software improvements that raise software quality and customer experience. You will build deep knowledge of Silicon One hardware architecture and software programming models, working with architecture, hardware and software teams.

You will develop applications and customizations of Silicon One software to fit customer needs, and design and build software features for both the control plane and data plane on Cisco's Silicon One NPU. The work centers on highly scalable, low-power, low-latency, dense systems that serve AI/ML workloads, internet users, and modern applications.

You will use modern C++, the Silicon One network processing language, and Python to build software for the NPU. You will take part in customer discussions to define requirements and scope features, and drive development from start to finish alongside lead engineers. You will own delivery of high-quality software on schedule and collaborate with architecture and hardware teams on the next generation of ASIC products.

You are an experienced software engineer who knows software development methodologies and builds software modules for the networking domain. You have worked across several networking areas with senior engineers and leads to develop and support networking software modules, and you bring strong expertise in control and routing planes and in building large-scale, high-density, highly redundant systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in EE/CS with 0-1 year of related experience, or Master of Science in EE/CS
• Prior expertise in software development and integration using one or more of: C++, Python
• Prior expertise with networking protocols and technologies (e.g., L2/L3, MPLS, BGP, OSPF)
• Prior expertise in analytical reasoning and debugging, with experience using tools such as GDB, PDB, etc.
• Prior working experience with algorithms and data structures

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud, data center, or edge networking products
• Experience with SAI, SONiC or other Network OS
• Experience writing, testing and supporting software for high-performing and scalable networking products
