Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The role focuses on designing, developing, and enhancing software using modern engineering approaches. The goal is to deliver technology capabilities that support business platforms and services used by customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

• Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions using industry standard programming languages, frameworks, and development tools while ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance.
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements, design solution strategies, and integrate systems in line with business goals.
• Collaborate with peers, participate in code reviews, and encourage knowledge sharing and strong coding standards.
• Keep up with emerging technology trends and contribute to internal technology communities that support technical growth and innovation.
• Follow secure coding practices to reduce vulnerabilities, protect sensitive information, and maintain secure systems.
• Apply effective unit testing practices to improve code design, readability, and reliability.

As a Java/Python AWS Engineer at Barclays, you will contribute to building and improving the organisation's digital platforms. The role involves solving complex technical challenges, delivering scalable solutions, and collaborating with engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to support business needs.

Technical Experience

• Design, develop, and maintain large scale applications using Java, Spring Boot, React, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Create unit tests to maintain strong code quality and reliability.
• Implement scalable systems using agile development methodologies.
• Integrate solutions with various business, technology, and product systems.
• Work with AWS cloud services and solve complex business problems through technology.
• Use Infrastructure as Code tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Apply cloud architecture and design principles.
• Ensure adherence to security and compliance standards.
• Build and deploy solutions using AWS services including EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, RDS, KMS, ELB, SNS, SQS, and IAM.
• Use CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Bitbucket, or GitLab to streamline releases and updates.
• Work with scripting and programming languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, or Java.
• Maintain working knowledge of Linux systems, networking, routing, and firewall concepts.
