Job Description
Purpose of the Role
The role focuses on overseeing the financial aspects of trading activities and maintaining the integrity of the bank’s trading book. It ensures compliance with regulatory requirements while providing insights into trading performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile daily profit and loss (P&L) figures for trading desks and ensure alignment with valued positions in the trading book.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in P&L reporting to accurately reflect the economic value of the trading portfolio.
- Support the identification, assessment, and mitigation of trading risks and report relevant financial risks to senior stakeholders.
- Maintain and analyze trading data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency while sharing insights on trading performance with traders and leadership.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports and assist in external audits by addressing auditor queries and ensuring trading activities are properly reflected in financial statements.
- Communicate complex financial information effectively with traders, risk teams, senior colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate across functions to ensure coordinated support for trading activities.
Analyst Expectations
- Contribute to the work of related teams and collaborate with different business functions.
- Take responsibility for operational processing outcomes and team activities.
- Escalate any breaches of policies or procedures when required.
- Support the implementation of new policies and procedures introduced for risk mitigation.
- Provide guidance and influence decision-making within the area of expertise.
- Maintain strong risk awareness and strengthen controls in assigned responsibilities while adhering to regulations and internal codes of conduct.
- Develop an understanding of how the sub-function integrates with the wider organization, including its products, services, and processes.
- Apply analytical judgment to factual information and resolve problems using technical experience and established precedents.
- Communicate complex or sensitive information and build relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the immediate team.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in MS Office tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
- Qualified accountant with strong understanding of financial controls and processes.
- Ability to identify potential control issues and escalate appropriately while improving process efficiency.
- Strong analytical approach with attention to detail and structured problem solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- CFA or a master’s degree in Finance or Financial Engineering.
- Articleship or industrial training experience in mid to large sized firms.
- Exposure to audits within large financial institutions or banks.
