Role Overview

The Analyst - Data Science position is part of the Financial Crimes Decision Science and Analytics Centre of Excellence. This team develops and optimizes automated transaction monitoring rules, reports, and processes to detect potential financial crimes across global products and services. Leveraging AI and machine learning, the team supports anti-money laundering (AML) investigations and enhances risk mitigation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and validate predictive models for AML use cases.
  • Analyze large datasets to generate business insights and innovative solutions.
  • Apply supervised and unsupervised techniques such as isolation forest and gradient boosting.
  • Develop use cases using emerging technologies like Generative AI.
  • Monitor model performance with internal tracking tools.
  • Collaborate with GFCC, FIU, and CFR teams to address requirements.
  • Create end-to-end data science solutions and ensure governance approvals.
  • Utilize Amex's closed-loop network for intelligent decision-making.
  • Present project findings to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on developments in finance, payments, and analytics.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0-30 months of experience in data science or statistics.
  • Strong proficiency in Python (data science libraries) and SQL.
  • Solid foundation in mathematics and statistics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently on complex projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in coding, algorithms, and high-performance computing.
  • Knowledge of version control (Git), model deployment, and developer environments.
  • Understanding of AML investigations, payments industry, and decision science frameworks.
