About the Role
The Analyst - Data Science position is part of the Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) Analytics & Data Science Center of Excellence. This team leverages advanced analytics, big data, and machine learning to improve risk management, reduce fraud, and enable profitable business growth. You will work on developing, deploying, and validating predictive models to support intelligent decision-making across risk, fraud, and marketing functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand the core business operations and decision-making levers at American Express.
- Analyze large datasets to generate actionable business insights and innovative solutions.
- Utilize closed-loop data within the Amex network to enhance decision relevance.
- Develop and implement advanced big data and machine learning approaches.
- Effectively communicate findings to leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Stay updated with industry trends in finance, payments, and analytics.
Minimum Qualifications
- MBA or Master's degree in Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields.
- 0–30 months of experience in analytics or big data projects.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings with complex, unstructured initiatives.
- Proficiency in SAS, R, Python, Hive, Spark, SQL.
- Knowledge of supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques including neural networks, decision trees, reinforcement learning, Bayesian models, and MapReduce.
