About the Role
The Data Associate within the Central Data & Insights team (formerly Data Journalism) works with reporters and editors to interpret datasets available on S&P Capital IQ Pro and deliver timely, accurate data projects. The position focuses on analyzing financial and economic information and creating data visuals that support newsroom coverage.
The ideal candidate shows strong interest in data analysis, financial markets, the global economy, and non‑financial corporates. Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge and familiarity with financial data are important for this role.

You will join a small but dynamic newsroom team dedicated to producing data‑focused coverage across multiple sectors of the economy. The group collaborates closely to transform complex datasets into insights that help readers understand market trends.

The newsroom delivers actionable coverage on financial markets worldwide. In this role, you will collaborate with editors and reporters to analyze current events and market developments using proprietary S&P data.
Responsibilities
- Analyze trends using S&P data and third‑party datasets.
- Collaborate with reporters, editors, and teammates on data‑driven news coverage.
- Support the newsroom by demonstrating how S&P data can be used within daily reporting.
- Verify and fact‑check data used in articles and research pieces.
- Respond to publication or research‑related queries from external audiences.
- Work with internal partners on product and workflow improvement initiatives.
- Participate in ad‑hoc data projects with cross‑functional teams.
- Highlight key credit, financial market, and supply chain trends.
- Compile datasets and produce data‑focused articles and reports for assigned regions.
Basic Qualifications
- Knowledge of non‑financial corporates, financial markets, accounting principles, or financial data reporting.
- Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency.
- Solid analytical and research abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, data analysis, or a related discipline.
- Understanding of macroeconomics and non‑financial sectors.
- Prior exposure to financial datasets is beneficial. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship experience in finance, accounting, or a similar field.
- Exposure to data journalism concepts.
- Basic familiarity with analytical tools such as SQL or Python.
