Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team powers the infrastructure behind major online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Microsoft Azure. As part of this team, interns assist in delivering the foundational technologies that keep these platforms running.

The global infrastructure includes more than 100 datacenters and over one million servers. These facilities are managed by specialists who support services used by more than one billion customers and 20 million businesses across more than 90 countries.

Sustainability and operational efficiency are central to Microsoft’s datacenter design and operations. The organization continues to expand and adapt to meet the increasing demands of global cloud services.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with deployment of on-site datacenter physical infrastructure.
  • Install, replace, and troubleshoot network cables and hardware components.
  • Handle data-bearing devices such as hard drives and solid-state drives.
  • Operate within a ticket-based workflow to manage and track tasks.
  • Move and position equipment using pallet jacks or assisted lifting tools.
  • Support the Datacenter Inventory and Asset Management Team (DIAT) with shipping, receiving, and inventory tasks during periods of high workload.
  • Follow Microsoft values and maintain a professional, collaborative work environment.

Background Check

Selected candidates must meet Microsoft, customer, or government security screening requirements. This includes passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check at hiring and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, or Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift equipment, and occasionally work at heights with or without assistance.
  • Strong communication skills when collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Good written and verbal English to support regional and global teams.
  • Interest in learning new technical skills and growing in the IT field.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including weekends or holidays if required.
