Software Engineer

Quality Engineering at Mastercard is a global team of software quality engineers focused on advancing testing practices and improving software reliability. The team works to drive quality transformation and promote DevTestOps practices across Mastercard’s technology organization.

Unlike traditional testing roles, this position requires solid knowledge of software development and close collaboration with developers and technical leads. The role focuses on creating test scenarios, building testing infrastructure, and performing code reviews to support high development quality.

This role also contributes to automation for cloud native applications across Mastercard’s core payment products, including authorization, clearing, and debit solutions.

Role and Major Accountabilities

  • Promote best practices in quality testing for cloud native applications while following the principles of 12 factor applications.
  • Develop and execute test automation for applications built on Digital Native Architecture (DNA).
  • Work with automated test suites that include code-level testing, front-end GUI automation, and service layer validation.
  • Interpret user stories and identify required tasks across different testing stages including unit, functional, integration, and regression testing.
  • Support the adoption of quality engineering practices such as functional testing, exploratory testing, acceptance test automation, and continuous integration.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with software engineers to improve quality through strong test coverage, configuration validation, monitoring, and early performance testing.
  • Develop and implement QA standards, processes, tools, and methodologies while working with other teams to define testing requirements.
  • Create and document performance test strategies and test plans, translating complex system specifications into test requirements.
  • Participate in requirements reviews and performance testing activities while tracking resolutions and maintaining documentation.
  • Identify and implement complex automation solutions, reproduce production issues, and resolve them for specific applications.
  • Define best practices for end-to-end application performance management and evaluate emerging technologies.
  • Support vendor evaluations and recommend software development tools where appropriate.
  • Contribute to medium-sized projects as an individual contributor, helping coordinate day-to-day tasks within initiatives.
  • Review project deliverables through walkthroughs and inspections, and assess testing tools for automation opportunities.
