Overview
- Responsible for financial accounting, reporting, and operational finance activities.
- Junior level tasks may include settlement accounting, accounts receivable, and fixed asset management.
- More advanced responsibilities involve preparing budgets, developing financial reports, conducting financial analysis, and making recommendations to senior management.
- The Controller function maintains oversight and controls around accounting and business processes to ensure accuracy and timely completion of accounting transactions.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex accounting tasks such as sub-ledger accounting (SLA) and preparation of financial statements in line with accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze financial performance and apply judgment to resolve complex accounting issues.
- Evaluate issue complexity, escalate when required, and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Assist with initiatives aimed at improving operational and accounting processes.
- Support SOX compliance activities and help strengthen internal control processes.
- Maintain strong relationships with business partners while delivering a client-focused approach.
- Coordinate with both internal and external auditors as needed.
Experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience reviewing and analyzing work to ensure appropriate accounting treatment.
- Exposure to implementing or recommending process improvements.
- Ability to resolve basic issues and gradually handle more complex accounting matters.
- Experience executing internal controls and evaluating their effectiveness, with suggestions for improvement where necessary.
- Builds collaborative relationships with business partners.
- May prepare or review moderately complex internal and external reports to ensure regulatory compliance.
