Software Engineer - Platform Testing
This position is designed as an onsite role, with the expectation that work will primarily be carried out from an HPE office.

Key Responsibilities
- Validate networking switch platforms through functional, regression, interoperability, and reliability testing.
- Create and execute PoE test plans including IEEE 802.3af/at/bt compliance, power negotiation, classification, allocation, and budget management.
- Perform interface testing across copper and fiber connections at speeds such as 1G, 10G, 25G, 40G, and 100G.
- Test link bring up, auto negotiation, flap recovery, FEC, MTU, VLAN, and LACP.
- Measure throughput, latency, packet loss, and error behavior.
- Develop and maintain Python based automation frameworks for platform and interface validation.
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous validation.
- Investigate failures using logs, packet captures, counters, and platform diagnostics, and collaborate with development teams for root cause analysis.
- Work closely with hardware, firmware, and software teams to define test coverage for new features and releases.
- Prepare clear test reports, defect summaries, and quality metrics for releases.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of platform testing for networking switches.
- Experience with PoE testing and interface testing on managed or unmanaged switch products.
- Understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching concepts such as VLAN, STP, RSTP, MSTP, LACP, QoS, IGMP, and basic routing.
- Hands on Python automation experience including test scripting, API or CLI automation, and log parsing.
- Experience using testing frameworks such as pytest or unittest.
- Familiarity with network traffic generators such as IXIA, Spirent, or Trex.
- Working knowledge of Linux environments, shell scripting, and Git.
- Ability to debug issues across integrated hardware and software environments.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of PoE standards, certification workflows, and power measurement setups.
- Experience with SNMP, NETCONF, RESTCONF, gNMI, or telemetry validation.
- Experience testing large campus network topologies and interoperability scenarios.
- Understanding of enterprise use cases involving IP phones, wireless access points, and PoE endpoints.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related discipline.
Success Criteria
- Achieve strong automation coverage for PoE and interface regression testing.
- Reduce manual testing cycle time and improve release confidence.
- Identify platform and interoperability defects early in the development cycle.
- Maintain a stable and repeatable testing infrastructure that supports rapid product releases.
