Role Overview

CME Group is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer I to begin a career within the Markets portfolio. This entry level role offers the opportunity to learn how large scale systems are built, operated, and expanded behind the CME Globex trading platform. The platform delivers low latency performance with high reliability, and the role provides hands on exposure to the systems that support it.

The selected candidate will work under the guidance of experienced engineers and receive training on monitoring, observability, automation, and improving production service reliability in a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Work alongside senior engineers to help develop observability, monitoring, and alerting for critical services.
• Shadow engineers as they collaborate with product teams to understand reliability and scalability requirements for new features.
• Create and maintain basic scripts and tools that help reduce manual work and improve engineering efficiency.
• Participate in blameless post mortems and contribute to ongoing service improvement.
• Assist with disaster recovery activities and system resiliency testing.
• Support migration of market applications to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• After training, begin shadowing and gradually take part in the on call rotation with support from senior engineers.

What We Are Looking For

• Strong interest in technology and motivation to build a career in Site Reliability Engineering.
• Basic programming or scripting knowledge such as Python, Java, C++, or Bash gained through coursework, projects, or internships.
• Analytical thinking and problem solving ability with a curious approach to learning.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and communicate clearly.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast paced trading technology environment.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to cloud computing platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Familiarity with Linux based systems.
• Basic understanding of container technologies including Docker or Kubernetes.
• Interest in monitoring and metrics tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals such as HTTP and TCP/IP.
• Interest in financial technology and high performance systems.
