Job Description
Purpose of the Role
The role focuses on overseeing financial aspects of trading activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the bank's trading book. The position also supports compliance with regulatory requirements and provides insights into trading performance.
Accountabilities
- Reconcile daily profit and loss (P&L) figures for trading desks, ensuring alignment with valued trading book positions and investigating discrepancies to reflect the true economic value of the portfolio.
- Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating trading risks, and report financial risks to senior colleagues.
- Maintain and analyze trading data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency while delivering insights on trading performance to traders and senior stakeholders.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports to authorities and support external audits by addressing auditor queries and ensuring trading activities are accurately represented in financial statements.
- Communicate complex financial information clearly to traders, risk professionals, senior colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate across teams to support a coordinated approach to trading activities.

- Understand how different teams coordinate to meet the objectives of the wider organization.
- Make informed judgments using factual analysis and attention to detail.
- Resolve problems by applying technical experience and referencing established precedents.
- Guide team members, communicate sensitive information where needed, and act as a contact point for stakeholders.

This position is based in the Barclays office at Chennai.
Skills and Experience
- Experience using the MS Office toolkit including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access databases.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form while collaborating with global teams including the UK and US.
- Strong control awareness with the ability to identify and escalate potential control issues and streamline processes.
- Analytical thinking with attention to detail and the ability to break down complex problems.
- Confidence when presenting information and interacting with stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- CFA qualification or a master’s degree in Finance or Financial Engineering is advantageous.
- Articleship or industrial training experience in mid to large firms.
- Audit exposure within large financial institutions or banks is preferred.
Candidates may be assessed on relevant competencies including risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital capability, and role-specific technical skills.
