Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The role focuses on overseeing financial aspects of trading activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the bank’s trading book. The position also supports compliance with regulatory requirements and provides insights into trading performance.

Accountabilities

  • Reconcile daily profit and loss (P&L) figures for trading desks to ensure alignment with valued positions in the trading book. Investigate and resolve discrepancies so figures reflect the true economic value of the trading portfolio.
  • Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating trading risks, and report financial risks to senior colleagues.
  • Maintain and analyze trading data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency while delivering insights on trading performance.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports to authorities. Support external audits by responding to auditor queries and ensuring trading activities are accurately reflected in financial statements.
  • Communicate complex financial information effectively with traders, risk professionals, senior colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across functions to ensure a coordinated approach to trading activities.

  • Take responsibility for outcomes related to team operations and processing activities.
  • Escalate breaches of policies or procedures when required.
  • Support the implementation of new policies and procedures introduced for risk mitigation.
  • Provide guidance and influence decision making within the area of expertise.
  • Manage risk and strengthen controls in assigned responsibilities while ensuring compliance with relevant rules and regulations.
  • Develop understanding of how the sub-function integrates with the broader function, including knowledge of products, services, and processes.
  • Understand how different areas coordinate to achieve organisational objectives.
  • Make evaluative judgements based on factual analysis with strong attention to detail.
  • Resolve problems by applying technical experience and established precedents.
  • Guide team members and communicate complex or sensitive information when required.
  • Act as a contact point for stakeholders outside the immediate team and build professional networks internally and externally.

Required Skills

  • Experience with the MS Office toolkit including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively across global teams.
  • Strong awareness of risk and control processes with the ability to identify and escalate potential issues.
  • Capability to break down complex problems and resolve them methodically.
  • High attention to detail and analytical thinking.

Preferred Skills

  • CFA qualification or a master's degree in finance or financial engineering is advantageous.
  • Articleship or industrial training experience in mid to large firms.
  • Audit exposure within large financial institutions or banks is preferred.

Candidates may be assessed on critical competencies such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and relevant technical knowledge.
