About the Role

American Express aims to deliver the world’s best customer experience every day. The Commercial Data Office (CoDO) within Global Commercial Services focuses on enabling business growth and improving customer experiences through data. The team works closely with the Enterprise Data Office and other partners to build innovative data solutions while following regulatory and data management standards.

CoDO operates across three primary focus areas: driving strategic growth and revenue through data assets, modernizing data management and discovery, and maintaining reliable and scalable commercial data platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and support the vision, strategy, and roadmap for data driven products and capabilities aligned with enterprise goals.
  • Translate business objectives into clear technical requirements and collaborate with technology teams to deliver solutions.
  • Partner with the Data Office and business stakeholders to design customer focused data products and analytics solutions.
  • Drive the development, integration, and enhancement of data platforms within Big Data and Oracle environments.
  • Manage and work with large datasets to maintain data quality, performance, and operational reliability.
  • Evaluate existing data governance processes and controls to identify risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Create and implement remediation plans that strengthen governance, compliance, access management, and data protection.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for governance frameworks, processes, and data management practices.
  • Collaborate with business, technology, and compliance teams to ensure alignment on standards and execution.
  • Provide regular updates, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders and senior leadership.

Qualifications

Academic Background

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field from reputed institutes.

Functional Skills

  • Experience working in product roles focused on data based analytics solutions or capabilities.
  • Knowledge of product development and solution design.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong project management, documentation, and communication capabilities.
  • Preferred experience with end to end automation of solutions.

Technical Skills

  • Handling and manipulation of large and complex datasets.
  • Data management, processing, and data quality management.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL.
  • Experience with Oracle databases and Big Data platforms such as Hadoop, Hive, Pig, MapReduce, and Python.
  • Understanding of data architecture, metadata management, and data lineage.
  • Familiarity with data governance, compliance practices, and data protection regulations.
  • Exposure to tools such as Collibra and Manta is considered an advantage.
  • Knowledge of generative AI concepts is beneficial.
