Job Description
Amazon is looking for passionate and driven Data Engineer Interns to join our data engineering team. You will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale data platforms to support data-driven decision-making processes across the organization.
As an intern, you will work closely with a diverse set of teams including Business Analysts, Managers, Software Development Engineers, and other Data Engineers. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in big data technologies and cloud platforms, while building critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain scalable and reliable data pipelines for analytics and business insights
- Design and operate data warehouses using SQL/NoSQL databases
- Collaborate on data modeling, architecture discussions, and optimizations
- Extract, transform, and load data from multiple sources using AWS tools such as EMR, RedShift, and Elastic Search
- Work with AWS services like S3, Lambda, Glue, and explore emerging technologies
- Contribute to the development and optimization of data lakes using platforms like Hadoop and Amazon S3
- Implement SQL-based analytics on big data platforms using Hive, Spark, and Impala
- Improve existing data processes and enable self-service analytics
- Maintain metrics, dashboards, and reports to support key business functions
- Communicate effectively across teams and demonstrate initiative in solving data-related challenges
Internship Guidelines
- This is a full-time internship requiring complete availability during the internship period
- Interns must not have any conflicting academic projects, employment, or examinations
- Any exam-related absence must be pre-communicated with the hiring manager
- Candidates are required to submit a university-signed declaration confirming their availability for the full internship duration
Basic Qualifications
- Final-year student in Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science or related field
- Experience in writing and optimizing SQL queries
- Familiarity with Python or similar programming languages
- Understanding of data engineering concepts: RDBMS, Big Data, NoSQL, ETL, and Data Warehousing
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS technologies: Amazon S3, EMR, RDS, RedShift
- Understanding of software engineering best practices and development lifecycle
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies, version control, testing, and DevOps tools
- Familiarity with reporting and visualization tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Understanding of computer science fundamentals: data structures, object-oriented programming, algorithms, and OS concepts
