American Express CodeStreet eligibility

The American Express CodeStreet hackathon is open only to eligible final-year engineering students from participating colleges. Students must register individually on HackerEarth, even if they later form a team.

2. Card benefit activation engine

Students need to build systems that automatically identify unused insurance or protection benefits attached to card purchases. The goal is reducing unclaimed benefits through automation.

3. Autonomous travel-disruption concierge

This theme revolves around AI agents that detect flight disruptions and autonomously rebook flights or hotels. Real-time automation and customer communication are major evaluation areas.

4. End-to-end servicing agent

Teams build conversational AI agents capable of handling card service requests such as fee reversals, limit increases, and replacement cards with proper audit trails.5. Governance layer for financial agents

This theme requires students to design governance infrastructure for AI agents, including permissions, spend limits, audit logs, and emergency shutdown controls.

6. Benefit-underutilization analytics

This problem statement focuses on analytics engines that calculate how much value card users miss from unused benefits and generate engagement nudges.

7. Cross-channel journey stitching

Participants build systems that combine customer interactions across apps, websites, call centers, and offline channels into unified timelines for analytics and customer experience tracking.

What happens in round 1 and round 2?

Round 1: Idea submission

In the first round, teams need to submit an idea proposal or presentation. A working prototype is not mandatory at this stage.

The judges evaluate submissions on:

• Relevance to the selected problem statement
• Idea articulation and clarity
• Technical innovation
• Practical implementation potential
• Business impact and scalability

Only the top 6 teams advance to the Chennai finale.

Round 2: Grand finale

Finalists must build working prototypes with actual code. Mock datasets and services are allowed, but teams are expected to demonstrate real functionality.

The evaluation focuses on prototype completion, innovation, implementation feasibility, and presentation quality.

American Express CodeStreet rewards and PPI details

The main attraction here is the Pre-Placement Interview opportunity. Members of the top two teams will receive PPIs from American Express.

All finalist teams also receive event goodies and recognition during the in-person finale in Chennai. Rewards are distributed individually, not per team.
