About the Role

As an Engineering Intern at Vymo, you will be part of a dynamic and fast-paced product engineering team responsible for building mission-critical solutions for some of the world’s leading financial institutions. You’ll collaborate with passionate engineers, product managers, and designers to solve complex problems, learn industry best practices, and sharpen your technical skills. What You’ll Do

  • Design & Build Scalable Systems: Work with mentors to build backend services and system components that scale to thousands of concurrent users.
  • Feature Development: Collaborate with product and design teams to build new features across the backend, APIs, and integrations.
  • Debugging & Optimization: Investigate bugs, optimize code for performance, and enhance reliability of existing systems.
  • Clean Code Practices: Write well-documented, maintainable, and testable code that adheres to industry standards.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, QA engineers, and frontend developers to ensure seamless integration and high-quality releases.
  • Agile Learning: Participate in sprint ceremonies, code reviews, and daily standups to gain real-world exposure to agile development.
  • Documentation: Contribute to technical documentation, project wikis, and system design diagrams to support maintainability.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong CS Fundamentals: A solid understanding of computer science basics including object-oriented programming, operating systems, and networking.
  • Backend Programming Experience: Hands-on coding experience with at least one of the following languages: Python, Java, or Node.js.
  • Problem-solving Skills: Ability to apply data structures and algorithms to build efficient solutions and troubleshoot issues.
  • Database Knowledge: Working knowledge of relational databases (like MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases (like MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
  • API Integration: Understanding of how to design, consume, and troubleshoot RESTful APIs.
  • Version Control: Experience using Git and platforms like GitHub or GitLab for version control and collaboration.
  • Team Player: Open to feedback, eager to contribute in team discussions, and ready to work in a collaborative environment.

Nice to Have

  • Event-driven Systems: Exposure to messaging and streaming platforms such as Kafka.
  • Caching & Scheduling Tools: Familiarity with Redis for caching and Airflow for workflow orchestration.
  • Cloud Platforms: Awareness of public cloud services like AWS or Azure, especially for deployment, monitoring, or storage.
  • DevOps Culture: Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerization tools (Docker), and basic shell scripting.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and effective verbal and written communication for working in cross-functional teams.
