What You Will Do

Within Logistics International - Transport Operations, India, the trainee will support operational activities related to transport booking and tracking from suppliers to plants in Bangalore using digital platforms and Transport Management Systems (TMS). The role also focuses on ensuring the accuracy and quality of transactional logistics data.

Your Future Team

Logistics International - Transport Operations, India operates within the Trucks Technology & Industrial Division (TTI) of Volvo Group. The team manages global logistics operations, ensuring packaging availability, transportation of materials to production facilities, and timely distribution of vehicles and equipment to customers.

The organization designs and optimizes supply chain logistics for Volvo Group, prepares logistics frameworks for new product launches, and supports Sales & Operations Planning processes. Teams collaborate across global locations to deliver efficient logistics services.

Transport Operations India

This function manages domestic and international transportation of materials to Volvo Group production facilities across India. It also oversees distribution of vehicles, construction equipment, and related products to dealers and customers, along with management of product transit yards and cross-docking operations.

Role Description

  • Coordinate with approved logistics partners including liners, forwarders, transporters, CHA representatives, overseas offices, and customers for sea, air, and surface freight movements.
  • Work closely with internal and external customers to support daily logistics requirements.
  • Monitor end-to-end logistics activities including transportation, customs clearance, freight movement, and delivery.
  • Handle pre-arrival notifications from logistics service providers and coordinate delivery slots.
  • Use Transport Management Systems such as ATLAS, XTR, and A4D to support operations.
  • Ensure delivery of shipments from ports to customer or consignee warehouses.
  • Maintain and document key performance indicators related to logistics operations.
  • Prepare and verify documentation for customs, insurance, packing specifications, and compliance with international regulations.
  • Arrange air freight for urgent or high-value shipments and manage associated risks.
  • Identify potential transport and operational risks in advance.
  • Handle special arrangements for delicate cargo, dangerous goods, or oversized shipments.
  • Maintain communication and oversight throughout the shipment lifecycle and support reporting activities.
  • Work with transportation and shipping teams to identify shipments that may miss delivery timelines.
  • Follow escalation procedures for deviations.
  • Participate in daily operational meetings and continuous improvement activities such as VPS and 5S.
  • Track pre-carriage, freight, and on-carriage costs through TMS usage.
  • Coordinate with overseas Volvo plants, suppliers, and customers for import and export flows.

Competence

  • Graduate degree in BE, B.Tech, B.Sc, B.Com, or BBA with focus on operations or related fields.
  • Certification in analytics or foreign trade is an added advantage.
  • Ability to use digital tools and Office365 applications for operational improvements and automation.
  • Understanding of logistics service provider performance monitoring.
