The Network Operations Center (NOC) is the central command and control center for transportation execution across the Amazon Supply Chain network, supporting multiple geographies including NA, India, and EU. It ensures timely pick-up and delivery of freight from vendors to Amazon fulfillment centers (FC) and from FCs to carrier hubs. In case of exceptions, NOC steps in to resolve issues and keeps stakeholders informed. Alongside tactical problem solving, NOC is responsible for understanding network exception trends and automating processes or proposing changes to streamline operations. This involves network monitoring and significant analysis of network data.

Overall, NOC plays a critical role in ensuring smooth functioning of Amazon transportation, directly impacting Amazon's ability to serve customers on time.

Purview of a Trans Ops Specialist

A Trans Ops Specialist at NOC facilitates information flow between different stakeholders (carriers, hubs, warehouses) and resolves issues that impact customer experience and business continuity. The role spans two verticals: Inbound and Outbound operations.

Inbound Operations deals with Vendor/Carrier/FC relationships, ensuring freight is picked up on time and delivered to FC as per appointment. Specialists address issues during the pick-up to delivery lifecycle.

Outbound Operations deals with FC/Carrier/Carrier Hub relationships, ensuring trucks leave FC to deliver customer orders as promised. Specialists address issues during the lifecycle from FC to customer premises.

A Trans Ops Specialist provides timely resolution by researching and querying internal tools and making real-time decisions. An ideal candidate should understand requirements, analyze data, notice trends, and drive customer experience without compromising time. The candidate should have a basic understanding of logistics and communicate clearly in written and oral form. They should also ideate process improvements and have the drive to implement them.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Communication with external customers (carriers, vendors/suppliers) and internal customers (retail, finance, software support, fulfillment centers).
  • Ability to pull data from numerous databases (using Excel, Access, SQL, or other data management systems) and perform ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
  • Develop and/or understand performance metrics to assist with driving business results.
  • Ability to scope out business and functional requirements for Amazon technology teams that create and enhance software systems and tools used by NOC.
  • Must be able to quickly understand the business impact of trends and make decisions based on available data.
  • Must be able to systematically escalate problems or variances in information and data to relevant owners and teams, and follow through on resolutions.
  • Work within various time constraints to meet critical business needs, while measuring and identifying activities performed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, as one may be required to create a narrative outlining weekly findings and variances to goals, and present these findings in a review forum.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in written and verbal communication skills to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel (macros, pivots, lookups) at an advanced level.
