About the Team
This role is part of Texas Instruments’ Advanced Technology Development (ATD) Mask Technology and Pattern Generation (MTPG) team. The group supports mask building, reticle generation, scribe array creation, and layout generation and verification methodologies.
The Tapeout Engineer works with product and test chip pattern generation teams across multiple semiconductor technologies at TI.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert product or technology development test chip layouts (LAFF, GDS) into fracture data used for mask generation.
- Prepare mask orders for shipment to vendors and manage the integrity and archival of data produced during the mask data preparation process.
- Create and maintain reticle floorplan databases.
- Develop and drive automation for the pattern generation and tapeout workflow.
- Collaborate with teams within Advanced Technology Development, including process development, PDK, EDA, and business units, to ensure the required information is available for the pattern generation process.
- Apply established methodologies and best practices to maintain consistency in the tapeout flow.
Required Skills
- Understanding of layout design and semiconductor fabrication basics including FEOL and BEOL.
- Familiarity with mask data preparation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso and Pegasus DesignRev or Mentor Calibre.
- Ability to maintain high standards for cycle time and quality during the tapeout process.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline is expected. Candidates with 0 to 2 years of experience in hardware engineering or related semiconductor work are considered.
