Job Description
The Payments Processing Operator is responsible for accurate and timely handling of various payment transactions, including physical cash or valuables. The role also involves managing cash related investigations and processing time critical or complex transactions for the bank’s internal and external clients.
This position requires handling enquiries related to cash payments before and after execution, often involving regulated tasks and coordination with multiple stakeholders.
Role Overview
- Capture and process payment transactions accurately, including physical cash and valuables.
- Ensure all payment related information is processed in line with service level agreements and industry standards.
- Follow established procedures to minimize operational risk and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Interact with internal teams and, where required, external clients regarding payment processing services.
- Support the escalation and resolution of client complaints and maintain coordination with front office teams and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Processing Standards
- Process transactions in accordance with procedures and defined cut off times.
- Support daily operational activities and coordinate with sending locations for clarifications.
- Share process related updates and clarifications with the team.
- Compile data related to process issues and report them to the manager.
- Perform end of day activities using defined checklists and maintain required records.
- Ensure self assessment reports and supporting documents are verified and signed appropriately.
- Maintain records of procedural changes and communicate updates to the manager.
- Provide training to new team members according to the training module.
- Ensure operational backups are properly maintained.
Escalation
- Escalate operational issues to supervisors or managers according to established procedures.
- Inform the Team Manager about exceptional situations that may require action.
- Ensure adherence to defined procedures and internal compliance requirements.
- Escalate process ambiguities to supervisors or managers for clarification.
Compliance
- Communicate potential business opportunities identified during routine transactions and support management in business development efforts.
Business Opportunities
- Achieve assigned job objectives within agreed timelines.
- Contribute ideas that improve service quality and operational efficiency.
- Participate in monthly departmental self assessments using defined checklists.
- Ensure reviews highlight control gaps and recommend corrective actions.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure updates and amendments to KOP are completed within the defined timelines.
- Support onboarding and training of new employees.
- Conduct assessments such as tests or quizzes for trainees.
- Maintain training documentation and records.
- Assist the manager with preparation of team related MIS reports.
Skills and Experience
- Understanding of payment processing workflows
- Familiarity with SWIFT messaging systems
- Knowledge of operational risk and regulatory requirements
- Experience or exposure to payments operations and SWIFT back office processes
- Graduate in any discipline
