Job Description

Purpose of the Role

This role focuses on overseeing the financial aspects of trading activity and maintaining the integrity of the bank's trading book. The analyst ensures accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and provides insight into trading performance.

Accountabilities

  • Reconcile daily profit and loss (P&L) figures for trading desks and ensure alignment with valued positions in the trading book. Investigate and resolve discrepancies so that P&L reflects the true economic value of the trading portfolio.
  • Assist with identifying, evaluating, and mitigating trading risks, and report financial risk matters to senior colleagues.
  • Maintain and analyse trading data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency, while providing insights to traders and leadership on trading outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports to relevant authorities and support external audit activities by addressing auditor queries and ensuring trading activity is accurately reflected in financial statements.
  • Communicate complex financial information clearly to traders, risk professionals, senior colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to maintain a coordinated approach to trading operations.

Analyst Expectations

  • Carry out assigned activities on time and maintain high quality standards while contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Apply technical knowledge within the assigned area and maintain a strong understanding of underlying financial concepts.
  • Support team operations by allocating work, coordinating resources, and guiding colleagues where leadership responsibilities exist.
  • For individual contributor roles, build deep technical expertise and provide advisory input when required.
  • Influence outcomes within the work area and collaborate with other teams and business functions.
  • Take responsibility for operational outputs and escalate any breaches of policy or procedure appropriately.
  • Support the implementation of new policies and processes introduced for risk mitigation.
  • Contribute to decision making within the area of expertise and maintain strong controls around risk management.
  • Build understanding of how the sub function integrates with the wider organisation, including knowledge of products, services, and processes.
  • Analyse factual information carefully, make evaluative judgements, and resolve issues using established precedents and technical experience.
  • Act as a point of contact for stakeholders and develop professional networks both internally and externally.
