Meta Platforms, Inc. (commonly known as Meta) is a global technology conglomerate headquartered in Menlo Park, California. Founded in 2004 as Facebook, the company rebranded to Meta in 2021 to reflect its broader mission: to build technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses, with a particular focus on the development of the metaverse—a shared virtual environment integrating augmented and virtual reality. Meta's core products include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Reality Labs' hardware such as Quest VR headsets.
With over 70,000 employees worldwide, Meta stands as one of the world's most influential technology companies, consistently ranking among the largest by market capitalization. The company is recognized for its leadership in social networking, digital advertising, and immersive technologies. In recent news, Meta has advanced its artificial intelligence capabilities, launching new generative AI features across its platforms and investing heavily in the development of next-generation AR/VR devices. Despite facing regulatory scrutiny and debates around privacy and content moderation, Meta remains a dominant force shaping the future of digital interaction.
