Job Description

The position involves working as a Data Scientist for Air System applications, supporting the development of safe and balanced design solutions while considering factors such as performance, cost, environmental impact, industrial constraints, and operational requirements.

The role focuses on developing machine learning and deep learning models that enable predictive and prescriptive decision making using in-service and design data. The position also includes building analytics dashboards to evaluate the operational reliability of aircraft air systems.

You will collaborate with multiple teams across Airbus, including groups responsible for data analytics and predictive maintenance, and leverage data platforms such as Skywise and Palantir to generate business intelligence insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate business requirements into statistical, machine learning, or AI problem statements.
  • Work with IT teams and data analysts to gather and integrate structured and unstructured datasets from multiple sources.
  • Partner with data engineers to design scalable pipelines and maintain efficient data flow for model training and evaluation.
  • Study data characteristics and apply scientific approaches to build solutions using statistical, machine learning, or AI methods.
  • Design and run controlled experiments to test and validate potential solutions.
  • Develop and deploy algorithms using modern software engineering practices.
  • Create monitoring mechanisms to ensure models continue to meet evolving business needs.
  • Contribute to reusable, production-grade AI solutions for industrial applications.
  • Share best practices and insights with the broader data community.
  • Ensure solutions comply with internal and external regulations and align with Airbus ethical AI principles.

Technical Focus Areas

  • Development and deployment of machine learning and deep learning models.
  • Dashboard creation within Skywise environments and standalone analytics tools.
  • Model development across NLP, time series, computer vision, and physics-based surrogate modeling.
  • Data-driven and hybrid modeling approaches that combine physics-based knowledge with data science techniques.

The role also requires coordination with stakeholders across engineering teams, procurement, production, customer service, quality, and configuration management to ensure solutions meet operational needs.

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
