Role Description

At Airbus, Data and Artificial Intelligence are used to improve efficiency and quality across the value chain. The Digital Makers team focuses on building reliable and scalable fullstack applications with AI capabilities to address complex problems in data analytics, computer vision, natural language processing, and operational research.

This apprenticeship offers hands-on exposure to developing end-to-end AI and data products. Selected candidates will work closely with engineers and data scientists while gaining practical experience across the full development lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of SQL and working with databases.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Understanding of machine learning algorithms including supervised and unsupervised learning, along with deep learning concepts.
• Familiarity with libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
• Experience with version control tools such as GitHub.
• Awareness of state-of-the-art techniques in computer vision.
• Data exploration skills including cleaning, preprocessing, and transforming large datasets for analysis or model training.
• Ability to derive insights from structured and unstructured datasets using statistical and analytical methods.
• Basic exposure to React, JavaScript (ES6+), and Python for fullstack development.
• Understanding of front-end fundamentals including HTML5 and CSS3.
• Familiarity with web frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, or Django is beneficial.
• Interest in learning cloud technologies, especially AWS.
• Basic understanding of REST APIs and Git-based workflows.

Additional Exposure

• Knowledge of Generative AI concepts such as large language models and prompt engineering.
• Project experience involving computer vision tasks like object tracking.
• Basic DevOps exposure including Docker or Kubernetes.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
• Familiarity with TypeScript and state management libraries such as Redux or Zustand.
• Contributions to academic or personal development projects.

Responsibilities

• Support the development and improvement of machine learning models for different applications.
• Work with datasets to clean, preprocess, and transform data for training and analysis.
• Implement advanced deep learning methods to address computer vision challenges.
• Collaborate with engineers and data scientists to optimize models and deploy them as endpoints or batch jobs.
• Run experiments and evaluate model performance using open-source datasets and Airbus-specific data.
• Create visualizations and reports that clearly communicate insights and results.
