VSSC Internships and Academic Projects: A Guide

The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), a major center under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), provides limited opportunities for students to undertake internships and final-year academic project work. These programs are designed for students in science and technology disciplines, allowing them to gain valuable experience in space-related research and development.

Eligibility Criteria for Internship Applicants

To be considered for an internship at VSSC, students must meet the following criteria:

• Must be an Indian citizen.
• Should be enrolled in or have recently completed (within the last six months) a regular on-campus program from a recognized university/institution in India or abroad.
• Must have a minimum aggregate mark of 60% or a CGPA of 6.32 on a scale of 10.
• Should be pursuing or have pursued courses relevant to ISRO’s programs.

Courses Eligible for Internship

Internships are available for students from the following academic backgrounds:

• Undergraduate Courses: BE/B.Tech, BSc (Physics/Chemistry), Integrated MSc, BS-MS
• Postgraduate Courses: ME/M.Tech, MSc (Physics, Chemistry, Meteorology, Space Science & Technology, Space Physics, Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences, Computer Science in Data Analytics or Data Science)
• PhD Programs: Students should have completed their coursework

Duration of Internship

• Minimum: 21 days
• Maximum: 45 days

Eligibility Criteria for Academic Project Work Applicants

Students interested in academic project work at VSSC must fulfill these requirements:

• Must be an Indian citizen.
• Should have a minimum aggregate of 60% or CGPA of 6.32 on a 10-point scale.
• Must be enrolled in relevant science and technology courses.
• For B.Tech students, project work can be conducted individually or in groups (maximum of 4 students from the same branch, semester, and college).

Courses Eligible for Academic Project Work

• Undergraduate: BE/B.Tech, BSc (Physics/Chemistry), Diploma (Electronics/Mechanical/Computer Science)
• Postgraduate: ME/M.Tech, MSc, Integrated MSc, Integrated M.Tech, BS-MS
• PhD Programs: Students should have completed their coursework

Important Instructions for Applicants

1. Students can only undertake one internship per degree course.
2. The number of internship slots is limited and selection depends on availability.
3. The internship will be conducted only in unclassified areas of VSSC.
4. No stipend, remuneration, or financial assistance is provided.
5. Students must upload relevant documents (education certificates, mark sheets, previous internship details, technical skills, etc.) as a single PDF file (maximum 1 MB).
6. Selected candidates will be informed via email.

Internship Application Timeline

• Application Window: Applications for the cycle that ran from 14 February 2025 to 14 March 2025 are now closed. The next cycle is expected around the same time next year.
• Internship Period: The last internship period was May 2025 – July 2025.

Academic Project Work Application Timeline

• For BE/B.Tech/BSc/Diploma: Download and submit the application form via email.
• For ME/M.Tech/MSc/Integrated MSc/BS-MS:
  • Next Slot: The last slot was July 2025 – December 2025.
  • Application Window: Applications for the cycle that ran from 15 April 2025 to 15 May 2025 are now closed. The next cycle is expected around the same time next year.
• For PhD: Download and submit the form via email.
