Looking for a serious research internship this summer? IIT Bhubaneswar has quietly opened applications for its Summer Internship 2026, and students from any recognized academic institution can apply.
The program runs inside the IIT Bhubaneswar campus and lets students work directly with faculty members across multiple research schools. If you're planning to build research experience or thinking about higher studies, this kind of internship helps a lot.
Quick heads-up: the application window closes on 15 April 2026. I've seen many students assume IIT internships stay open longer than they actually do, so don't wait until the last week.

If you're exploring multiple IIT research programs this year, it also helps to check our complete guide to IIT Internships 2026. Many institutes release their summer calls around the same time.
The eligibility is refreshingly simple. IIT Bhubaneswar hasn't restricted the program to specific colleges or universities.
Students currently registered in a degree program at any academic institution can apply for the internship. That includes engineering, science, and related disciplines depending on the research school.
The internship is offered in the following schools at IIT Bhubaneswar:
So whether you're a BTech student interested in engineering research or someone studying science or management fields, there are potential projects available.
And yes, this is quite similar to other IIT summer programs such as the IIT Kanpur SURGE Internship 2026 or the IIT Madras Summer Fellowship Programme 2026, where students work closely with professors on research problems.
The internship duration is flexible but must fall within a defined range.
The internship takes place during IIT Bhubaneswar's summer vacation window, which runs from 9 May 2026 to 19 July 2026.
Another key point: the internship is conducted in offline mode only. That means you'll work directly on campus with a faculty supervisor.
This kind of in-person research exposure is honestly where most of the learning happens. You get access to the institute's labs, libraries, and research environment, something remote internships can't fully replicate.
The stipend structure here is slightly different from fixed-fellowship programs.
Supervising faculty members may provide a fellowship depending on the availability of funds from their research projects. In simple terms, some projects might offer financial support while others may not.
So treat the stipend as a bonus, not the primary reason to apply.
What the program does guarantee is research exposure and an official Training Completion Certificate after finishing the internship and submitting your project report.
Selected interns can stay inside the campus hostel, but it isn't automatically free.
Hostel accommodation may be provided based on availability and on a payment basis. Students need permission through their faculty supervisor and the Warden Council.
Interns are expected to cover:
During the internship period, students receive temporary identity cards and access to facilities such as the institute library and internet.
The application portal requires several documents. Most of them are standard academic records.
You can download the required format here: Download Bonafide Certificate Form.
This certificate confirms that you are currently enrolled in your college. Typically, it needs to be signed and stamped by your department or academic office.
The entire application process is online through the institute's internship portal. Email or offline applications are not accepted.
The selection happens in two stages.
First, applications are screened by the respective school or department. After that, a selection committee evaluates shortlisted candidates.
Each school can select interns under faculty supervisors. Typically, up to two interns may be selected per faculty member.
Selected candidates receive confirmation via email. The final list is also published on the institute website.
One small detail students sometimes miss: the institute does not send rejection emails. If you don't receive a selection email, it usually means you were not shortlisted.
At the end of the internship period, students must submit a final project report to their supervising faculty member.
Once the supervisor verifies the work, the institute issues a Training Completion Certificate.
However, IIT Bhubaneswar does not assign grades for the internship work.
If you're actively exploring research internships this year, it also makes sense to track multiple opportunities. For example, programs like the IISc Bangalore CBRAIN Internship 2026 and the IIT Roorkee SPARK Internship 2026 attract thousands of applicants every summer.
You can also browse all opportunities on Talentd if you want to track the latest internships, hackathons, and fellowships open for students.
A quick reality check. IIT internships receive a lot of applications.
A few small things can make your application stand out:
Honestly, the students who prepare their documents early usually avoid the last-minute submission panic.
