Delhi University students often ask one simple question: can you get a paid internship without leaving campus? Turns out, yes. And the University itself runs one.
The Delhi University Vice Chancellor Internship Scheme (VCIS) is a paid internship program designed specifically for DU students. It places selected interns inside university departments, offices, and centers, giving them real exposure to academic administration and research work.
For the June–July 2026 summer cycle, applications are open and the deadline is close. If you're studying at DU and want work experience before graduation, this one deserves a serious look.

The internship is strictly limited to students currently studying at the University of Delhi.
One more rule many students miss. You can avail the VCIS internship only once during your course of study at Delhi University. So choose your timing wisely.
Yes, the internship is paid.
Selected interns for the summer cycle receive a stipend of ₹11,576 per month for full-time work of about 20 hours per week. The internship duration cannot exceed two months from the joining date.
The funding comes from the University Student Welfare Fund. Apart from the stipend, interns who successfully complete the program receive an official internship certificate from the Dean of Students' Welfare.
Honestly, getting a paid internship inside your own university system is rare. And the certificate from DSW carries weight when you apply for research roles or campus placements later.
Interns are placed across different departments and administrative offices of Delhi University depending on requirements.
Possible internship locations include:
The exact role varies. Some interns help with data organization, documentation, event coordination, research tasks, or administrative support.
If you're aiming for research-focused internships later, programs like the FOSSEE Summer Fellowship 2026 at IIT Bombay or the NISER Summer Internship 2026 are also worth exploring.
The application is straightforward, but the documentation part trips up many students.
You'll need the following:
Quick heads-up: the LOR must be issued on official letterhead and signed on or after 13 April 2026. Forms without the recommendation letter will be rejected.
You can refer to the official format here: VCIS Booklet (Annexure C)
You'll also need to bring the same LOR document during the interview stage.
After submission, shortlisted candidates will be invited for a Group Discussion or interview. Final selections are announced by the Dean of Students' Welfare office.
Selection is not purely form-based.
The university reviews applications and then calls shortlisted students for an interaction round. The selection committee usually includes:
Your Letter of Recommendation and interview performance both matter. I've seen students underestimate the LOR, but it often makes a difference if the competition is high.
A few conditions apply to the VC Internship Scheme.
Also, interns who fail to complete the assigned internship period or tasks may not receive the stipend or certificate.

Most internships force students to hunt outside the university. VCIS flips that idea.
You work inside the university ecosystem, learn how departments function, and build connections with faculty and administrators.
For students interested in research, higher studies, public policy, or education administration, this exposure is surprisingly useful. Even if your career path is corporate, the experience adds credibility to your resume.
