DRDO DRL Internship Guide for Life, Chemical, Pharmaceutical Sciences

The Defence Research Laboratory (DRL), a unit of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, invites applications for a six-month paid internship program for students pursuing post-graduation in Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Situated in Tezpur, Assam, DRL is actively involved in research initiatives that support the armed forces deployed in North East India.

About DRDO DRL Internship

The DRDO’s Defence Research Laboratory offers an internship opportunity specifically crafted for students pursuing their master’s degrees (2nd year). Selected candidates engage in R&D activities relevant to combat support, disease surveillance, water quality, and waste management, among others.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Requirements

• Candidates must be currently pursuing their full-time postgraduate degree (Master’s) in the 2nd year (3rd or 4th semester) in any of the accepted disciplines from a recognized Indian university or institute.

Academic Performance

• A consistent academic record with First Division is mandatory. Copies of mark sheets must be submitted.

Age Limit

• The applicant must be below 28 years as of the 10th day from the date of advertisement.
• Relaxation: Up to 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates.

Important Dates

Stipend & Payment Structure

• Interns receive a monthly stipend of ₹5,000.
• The total stipend of ₹30,000 is disbursed in two equal parts:
  • ₹15,000 after 3 months
  • ₹15,000 after successful completion of 6 months
• No additional allowance is provided for accommodation, travel, or other expenses.

Mode of Selection

• Selection is merit-based and conducted via an online interview.
• No communication is made with unselected candidates.

No Application Fee

There is no fee for applying or participating in any stage of the selection process.

Selected candidates bring the following documents at the time of joining:

1. Police verification report or acknowledgment from local police station
2. Undertaking under the Indian Official Secrets Act, 1923
3. Declaration of adherence to IT rules applicable to the Ministry of Defence
4. Bank account details for stipend transfer
5. Medical fitness certificate from an MBBS qualified doctor
6. Original Aadhaar card and institute ID card
7. Three recent passport-size photographs
8. All previous semester mark sheets (originals for verification)
9. Any additional documents as instructed during selection

Additional Guidelines

• Internship Certificate is only issued upon successful completion of the full 6-month term and evaluation of project work.
• No certificate or stipend is granted to those who discontinue before 3 months.
• No employment assurance: Completion of internship does not confer any right to future employment at DRL-DRDO.
