Job Description

IBM India Systems Development Lab (ISDL) is part of the worldwide IBM Systems division. Established in 1996, the lab is headquartered in Bengaluru with presence in Pune and Hyderabad. ISDL teams work across the IBM Systems stack including processor development, firmware, operating systems, systems software, storage software, cloud software, performance engineering, and system test. As a Software Engineer at IBM ISDL, you will get an opportunity to work on all phases of product development (design, development, test, and support) across core systems technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop IBM Systems products, interfacing with development, product management teams, and end users across geographies.
• Analyze product requirements, determine the best design approach, implement or code the solution, and test across the entire product development lifecycle.
• Work on validation and support of IBM Systems products.
• Collaborate with technically accomplished teams to create world-class products and deployment environments.

Opportunities Across ISDL Teams

Systems and Cloud Software Engineer

Involves all phases of software development, including designing new enhancements, coding (with test automation), problem determination, bug fixing, performance analysis, and solving client problems. Work on IBM Compute and Storage Systems including virtualization, I/O, and RAS.

AI Software Engineer

Deliver enterprise AI solutions on IBM Z, working as a full stack developer from understanding client challenges to providing solutions using AI.

IBM Spectrum Fusion SW Engineer

Develop and support features for the Spectrum Fusion product roadmap, a container-native storage solution for OpenShift.

Linux Developer

Design and develop advanced features in the Linux OS for next-generation IBM server platforms, collaborating with the Linux community.

Hardware Management Console (HMC) / Novalink Software Developer

Design, develop, and test the management console for IBM Power Servers, including user-centric GUI and backend development in an Agile environment.

AIX Developer

Involved in development, test, or support of AIX OS features, or open source software porting or development for AIX OS.

Performance Engineer

Conduct experiments and analysis to identify performance aspects for operating systems and enterprise servers, using expertise in Linux, kernel building, performance characterization, and hardware architecture.

Firmware Engineer

Design and develop components and features independently, working on end-to-end design across Power, Z, and Storage portfolio, including open source OpenBMC stack.

Enterprise System Design - Software Engineer

Opportunities in system and chip development teams, including processor verification, pre/post silicon validation, and EDA tool development.

Required Skills

• Strong programming skills in C, C++, Go, Python, Java, or Shell scripting.
• Knowledge of operating systems, Linux, Kubernetes, Docker, OpenStack, and cloud concepts.
• Experience with REST APIs, microservices, and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with Git and open source development.
• For AI roles: understanding of ML/DL frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and NLP.
• For firmware roles: experience with embedded software, OpenBMC, and system architecture.
• For hardware roles: knowledge of processor architecture, Verilog/VHDL, and verification methodologies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
