About the Role
Optum is hiring Software Engineers to work on innovative healthcare technology solutions. In this role, you will collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and business intelligence teams to build scalable data platforms, develop data models, and contribute to healthcare analytics. This position offers an opportunity to work on Big Data, Cloud, and AI-driven systems while gaining exposure to the US Healthcare domain.
Responsibilities
- Develop proficiency in Java, Python, SQL, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Learn and apply Entity-Relationship Database Models and Data Warehousing principles for Machine Learning and BI solutions
- Work with Hadoop, R, and Python to solve healthcare-related business problems
- Support requirement gathering and data modeling with guidance from Senior Engineers and Managers
- Document metadata and present data source details in team discussions
- Collaborate with Data Lake, BI, and Data Science teams to design and implement data solutions
- Design and develop Data Marts, de-normalized views, and data quality processes
- Participate in capability development and process improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and project directives
Requirements
- Graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent field
- 0–2 years of experience in software/data engineering
- Strong knowledge of at least one programming language: Python, Java, or Scala
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, IBM DB2, MySQL)
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (HBase, MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Knowledge of Unix Shell Scripting and GitHub
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Big Data tools: Hive, Sqoop, Spark (RDD, SQL, Streaming), Kafka
- Knowledge of Dimensional Modeling in Cloud/Big Data environments
- Understanding of Data Warehousing design (FACT Tables, Snowflake Schema)
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Exposure to Elastic Search, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
