About the Role

The Business Operations (BizOps) team is looking for a Business Operations Site Reliability Engineer (SRE). This team acts as the production readiness steward for Mastercard products and ensures that platforms remain stable, reliable, and healthy.

BizOps engineers support developers during the application build phase by promoting strong operational design practices such as automation, monitoring, and capacity planning. The goal is to help teams create scalable and fault-tolerant systems while encouraging developer ownership of production services.

The team manages daily operations with a strong focus on incident triage, root cause analysis, and blameless post‑mortems. By understanding the business impact of applications, BizOps engineers help improve reliability while ensuring excellent customer experience.

Business Operations teams engage early in the development lifecycle to proactively guide production readiness and manage changes effectively. They also support compliance, risk mitigation, and operational standards across environments while aligning product priorities with operational needs.

Role Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field involving coding such as mathematics or physics, or equivalent practical experience.
• Exposure to coding or scripting and an interest in automation.
• Understanding of algorithms, data structures, pipeline management, and software design.
• Curiosity for new technologies, infrastructure improvements, and architectural scaling.
• Strong problem‑solving approach with clear communication and ownership.
• Interest in designing, analysing, and troubleshooting large distributed systems.
• Ability to work within cross‑functional teams distributed across multiple locations.
• Capability to balance quick fixes with long‑term system improvements.
• Comfort collaborating with development, operations, and product teams to ensure expected system behaviour and monitoring coverage.

Technical Exposure

• Coding experience in languages such as C++, Java, Python, or Go.
• Knowledge of cloud-native platforms and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
• Monitoring tools including Splunk or Dynatrace.
• Experience with Java technologies including J2EE, Web Services (SOAP/REST), Spring, or Spring Boot is beneficial.
• Familiarity with production support environments and ITIL processes.
• CI/CD tools such as Git, BitBucket, Jenkins, Maven, Artifactory, Groovy, or Chef.
• Experience building efficient CI/CD pipelines that automate code delivery from development to production.
• Experience building and maintaining cloud solutions on Azure, GCP, or AWS following best practices.

Additional Technical Understanding

• Client-server architecture concepts.
• Networking fundamentals including Layer 1 to Layer 3.
• Stack trace analysis such as TCP dumps, heap dumps, thread dumps, and CPU or memory diagnostics.
• Load balancers and application firewall concepts.
• Operating system navigation and troubleshooting.
• Logging, monitoring standards, and operational practices.
• High availability design and business continuity planning.
• Caching and configuration management concepts.
