About the Role
Axelerant is looking for a motivated Junior Backend Engineer to join our remote-first team. In this position, you will contribute to building robust and scalable backend solutions that power our core systems. Working closely with experienced engineers, you will gain hands-on experience in modern software development practices, backend architecture, and production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop backend features using Python or Go under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Write clean, maintainable code adhering to team standards.
- Optimize SQL queries and work with PostgreSQL databases.
- Implement RESTful API endpoints and manage HTTP requests and responses.
- Create unit and integration tests to ensure code quality.
- Debug and fix issues in the existing codebase with team support.
- Participate in code reviews and apply constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into solutions.
- Learn and apply asynchronous or background processing patterns.
- Use logs and basic observability tools to troubleshoot issues.
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
Required Skills & Expertise
- Foundational knowledge in backend development using Python or Go.
- Ability to write Python code with functions, classes, and error handling.
- Basic SQL and PostgreSQL experience, including writing queries and understanding database schemas.
- Understanding of RESTful APIs and HTTP methods.
- Basic testing knowledge, including writing unit tests and exposure to integration testing.
- Familiarity with Git for version control.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and grow technical skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
Preferred Skills
- Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Experience with automation or scripting.
- Exposure to backend frameworks or service-based architectures.
- Knowledge of containerization concepts.
- Experience with background jobs or scheduled tasks.
