Infineon Apprentice Junior Researcher – System Modeling (Bangalore)

AI Tools

Overview

As a Junior Researcher in System Modeling, you will assist in developing and using executable system-level models and virtual prototypes using either the MathWorks toolchain (MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape) or SystemC/TLM. The role involves supporting the evaluation of PPA and related KPIs to guide architecture exploration and design choices. This position is hands-on and learning focused, with mentorship and collaboration across multiple engineering teams.

Your Role

  • Assist in building and extending system-level models using MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape, Stateflow, or SystemC/TLM-2.0 for hardware and software co-simulation.
  • Run experiments to measure PPA metrics such as latency, throughput, utilization, energy per operation, average and peak power, memory footprint, and simple area indicators.
  • Implement and calibrate entry-level power models, including activity or state-based models, DVFS scaling, and clock or power gating effects based on specifications, RTL activity, or measurement data.
  • Contribute device or IP models, bus or interconnect behavior, and software workload integration within a virtual platform environment.
  • Develop or integrate basic plant or physical models such as power stages or sensor and actuator models to support system-level validation where required.
  • Automate simulations, parameter sweeps, and regression runs while generating plots, dashboards, and summary reports using MATLAB or Python.
  • Conduct basic sensitivity analysis and design-space exploration, highlighting trade-offs and recommending next steps based on collected data.
  • Support correlation of modeling results with RTL simulations, emulation platforms, or silicon measurements, while documenting assumptions and confidence levels.
  • Maintain clear documentation of modeling approaches, interfaces, KPIs, and results while following coding standards, review processes, and version control using Git.
  • Participate in literature reviews, internal seminars, and knowledge-sharing activities, and contribute to invention disclosures or publications when applicable.
  • Collaborate with senior researchers, system architects, firmware engineers, and verification teams to reproduce issues and refine model fidelity and runtime.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong fundamentals in digital logic, computer architecture, and embedded systems. Exposure to control systems or signal processing is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with at least one modeling approach:
    • MathWorks stack: MATLAB and Simulink, with exposure to Simscape or Stateflow considered beneficial.
    • SystemC/TLM: Basic C++ knowledge and an understanding of TLM-2.0 concepts (LT or AT) are advantageous.
  • Understanding of PPA fundamentals including performance metrics, power characteristics such as dynamic versus leakage and DVFS, and area estimation concepts.
  • Programming or scripting experience with MATLAB or C++, and preferably Python for automation and data analysis.
  • Basic exposure to hardware description languages such as Verilog or VHDL and co-simulation concepts.
  • Comfortable with data analysis, visualization, and writing clear technical documentation.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Simscape Electrical or Thermal, Stateflow, Embedded Coder, Simulink Test, or Simulink Requirements.
  • Knowledge of SystemC/TLM features such as payload extensions, timing annotation, or simple virtual platform integration.
  • Exposure to co-simulation approaches such as FMI or FMU, S-Functions, or TLM bridges.
  • Awareness of PPA estimation tools and methods, including correlation concepts with PrimeTime-PX or Joules, and memory estimation approaches like CACTI.
  • Basic thermal and power modeling exposure or mission-profile analysis.
  • Familiarity with verification techniques including unit testing and MIL, SIL, PIL, or HIL basics.
  • Understanding of software quality or safety standards such as MISRA, Polyspace, ISO 26262, or AUTOSAR is beneficial.
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitLab CI, CMake, containers, and dashboard development with MATLAB App Designer or Python libraries.

What We Offer

  • Mentorship from experienced system modelers and architects.
  • A structured learning path covering MathWorks tools, SystemC, TLM concepts, and PPA methodologies.
  • Exposure to real product programs across automotive and industrial sectors.
  • Opportunities to contribute to publications, invention disclosures, and internal technical presentations.
  • A collaborative work culture with flexible working conditions and employee benefits.
