Job Overview

The Systems Administrator Grad role is an entry level position intended for candidates beginning their career in database administration. The position focuses on learning and supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments with guidance from senior DBAs.

The role involves assisting with basic database operations, monitoring systems, performing backups, and supporting incidents across both production and non production environments. It is suitable for candidates with basic SQL knowledge and a strong interest in database administration.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the SQL Server Database Administration team with daily operational activities.
• Monitor SQL Server instances to maintain database availability and perform routine health checks.
• Review and respond to SQL Server alerts.
• Carry out basic troubleshooting for common SQL Server related issues.
• Assist in managing incidents and service requests through ticketing tools.
• Conduct initial issue analysis and escalate complex problems to senior team members.
• Ensure incidents and service requests are handled within defined SLA timelines.
• Assist with SQL Server backup and restore activities under guidance.
• Support regular maintenance tasks and assist during SQL Server patching or upgrade activities.
• Help manage user access requests.
• Maintain documentation and update operational runbooks related to DBA activities.
• Follow standard operating procedures, security policies, and compliance guidelines.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 0 to 1 year of experience in IT support, database support, or similar roles.
• Fresh graduates with basic SQL knowledge and relevant training or certifications are encouraged to apply.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft SQL Server.
• Knowledge of SQL fundamentals including SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE operations.
• Familiarity with joins, filters, and basic database structures such as tables and indexes.
• Conceptual awareness of database backups, restores, availability, and performance.
• Basic understanding of Windows Server concepts and relational database principles.
• Familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio.
• Willingness to work in rotational shifts and on call support models.

Nice to Have

• Basic knowledge of MySQL.
• Any SQL Server or database related certification.
• Exposure to ITIL practices or production support concepts.
