Overview
The Counsel I role is an entry level position responsible for delivering legal guidance and support to the business. The role focuses on providing legal advice, documentation support, and regulatory guidance to help business teams operate in compliance with applicable rules and internal policies.
Job Purpose
The selected candidate will assist with negotiating markets trading documentation for Citi’s markets sales and trading desks and fund services across the Asia Pacific (AP) region.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiate and prepare trading documentation including ISDA Master Agreements, Global Master Repurchase Agreements, Global Master Securities Lending Agreements, CDEA, and related markets documentation. This also includes ancillary trading documents and the review of corporate, security, and collateral documentation.
- Carry out due diligence to confirm that agreements are enforceable and satisfy the well-founded basis standard under applicable capital regulations.
- Coordinate and track deviation approvals while ensuring documentation complies with legal requirements, regulatory standards, and Citi policies.
- Provide legal advice and guidance across multiple practice areas while evaluating the risk implications of business decisions and ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, and internal policy frameworks.
- Manage data input related to trading documentation and collaborate with regional support teams regarding documentation systems, updates, and queries.
- Participate in global regulatory and documentation remediation initiatives related to trading documentation.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within teams and adapt to changing requirements.
- Negotiation capability with the ability to work with colleagues across business and support functions at different levels of seniority.
- Understanding of legal practices and familiarity with the financial services industry is preferred.
